Core idea: The AI selloff does not necessarily signal the end of the boom. Amazon's AWS growth, expanding semiconductor demand, and continued cybersecurity spending point to opportunities, but each company faces different business challenges and valuation pressures.
Honest catch: Strong earnings do not guarantee higher stock prices. Amazon faces rising capital spending, Reddit must address weaker traffic, Intel's foundry turnaround remains unproven, and expensive valuations can make even strong businesses vulnerable to further declines.
5-Year Horizon: AMZN, AMD, NVDA, AVGO, and MU offer exposure to cloud computing and AI infrastructure, while FTNT, CRWD, PANW, and RBRK provide cybersecurity exposure. INTC's potential depends heavily on winning foundry customers and improving cash flow. Long-term results will depend on execution, competition, and the price paid today.
Tip: Don't buy a stock simply because it has fallen. Track revenue growth, free cash flow, customer demand, competitive advantages, and valuation. Focus on businesses whose fundamentals still support their long-term potential rather than trying to predict the bottom.
When AI stocks start falling, it is easy to assume the entire technology boom is losing momentum. But a declining share price does not tell the whole story. 📉 Amazon (AMZN) continues to expand AWS, with strong cloud growth and a substantial backlog, while Reddit (RDDT) is improving advertising monetization but facing questions about user traffic. Intel (INTC), meanwhile, is still trying to prove that its manufacturing turnaround can deliver lasting results.
Across the semiconductor industry, Nvidia (NVDA), Broadcom (AVGO), Micron Technology (MU), and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) have different business models and growth drivers, even when market-wide concerns push their shares lower together. Cybersecurity companies such as Fortinet (FTNT), CrowdStrike (CRWD), and Palo Alto Networks (PANW) face a similar challenge: strong businesses can still become expensive investments. For a long-term investor, the opportunity is not simply finding the biggest decline. It is identifying which companies can sustain growth, generate cash, and justify their valuations.

AWS growth, Reddit's traffic challenges, Intel's foundry ambitions, and semiconductor supply constraints tell very different stories beneath the AI selloff. 🔎

5-Year Horizon $MPC ( ▼ 3.22% ): Strong Results, Then a Slide in MPC
Imagine setting aside $500 a month for $MPC ( ▼ 3.22% ) for five years, buying a fixed dollar amount on a schedule, a method called dollar-cost averaging. In our example the buy happens on the 9th of each month (or the next trading day), from Nov 2021 through Oct 2026: 60 buys, $30,000 in total.
5-Year Growth & Value: MPC closed at $63.68 on Nov 3, 2021 and at $444.73 on Oct 30, 2026, a price gain of about 598% (about 7 times), or roughly 47.5% a year compounded (the steady yearly rate that would give the same total gain). With dividends reinvested, the total return was about +680.7%.
Investment Returns: In that example, the $30,000 invested via dollar-cost averaging would have been worth about $97,700 at the Oct 30, 2026 close (about 3.26 times the money put in), while a single $10,000 lump sum invested on Nov 3, 2021 would have become about $69,840. (Price only: no dividends, fees or taxes, and these are examples, not forecasts.)
High & Low Extremes: The highest close of the past 52 weeks was $484.92 on Oct 14, 2026, so the Oct 30, 2026 close sat about 8.3% below it (the stock touched an intraday high of $493.98 on Oct 19, 2026, but closed that day at $473.69). The lowest close of the five years was $60.28 on Nov 19, 2021, about 5.3% below the $63.68 start.
Next report: MPC reports Q3 results on Nov 3.

Caution: past pace rarely continues. MPC's Aug 4, 2026 release for the second quarter showed net income attributable to MPC of $5.1 billion ($17.73 per diluted share) and adjusted EBITDA of $8.5 billion. The stock moved from an intraday high of $493.98 on Oct 19, 2026 to a close of $444.73 on Oct 30, 2026, a reminder that prices can pause even when results are strong.

AI Stocks Are Falling: Is This a Buying Opportunity or a Warning Sign?
AI stocks are facing growing selling pressure, even as several companies continue reporting strong earnings and rising demand. Nvidia (NVDA), Broadcom (AVGO), Micron Technology (MU), Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), and major cybersecurity stocks have all experienced volatility. But does this mean the AI boom is ending?
Not necessarily. Some stocks have simply risen faster than their businesses can justify. When expectations become too high, even good earnings may not be enough to keep share prices climbing. The important distinction is whether a company is experiencing a temporary valuation correction or a genuine slowdown in its business.
Amazon: AWS Continues to Drive Growth
Amazon $AMZN ( ▲ 2.2% ) reported strong performance despite a negative stock reaction. AWS revenue increased 39.3% year over year to nearly $46 billion, while its backlog reached approximately $578 billion. More than half of AWS AI revenue reportedly comes from inference, showing that demand extends beyond training AI models.
Amazon is also expanding its custom-chip business through Graviton and Trainium, which our research suggests is becoming a more meaningful part of the AI story.
Advertising remained a growth driver, though its pace appears to have moderated. Overall operating margin reached 13.9%.
The main concern is rising capital expenditure and its impact on free cash flow. Still, AWS growth, improving operating efficiency, and custom-chip development provide meaningful long-term opportunities.
Reddit: Monetization Is Improving, but Traffic Is a Concern
Reddit $RDDT ( ▼ 0.83% ) delivered strong monetization results, with global average revenue per user increasing 36% year over year. Video advertising revenue more than doubled, and adjusted EBITDA margin approached 45%.
However, user growth was weaker. Daily active user metrics missed expectations, while external referral traffic declined. The rise of AI-generated search answers could be reducing the number of people clicking through to Reddit discussions.
Reddit plans to test a logged-in-only experience in selected international markets. This could improve advertising targeting, but requiring users to sign in may discourage casual visitors.
AI data-licensing agreements with Google, Anthropic, or OpenAI could provide another revenue opportunity. However, Reddit still needs to prove that it can protect its content, maintain traffic, and grow its audience.
Intel: The Turnaround Still Has Much to Prove
Intel $INTC ( ▼ 8.81% ) reported approximately 21% year-over-year revenue growth, with its data center operating margin improving to 41.5%.
However, its next-quarter guidance disappointed. Memory shortages, weaker PC demand, inventory adjustments, and manufacturing disruptions are putting pressure on the business.
The biggest opportunity remains Intel Foundry. Securing major external customers could transform its manufacturing operations into a meaningful growth business. Management is also trying to control spending by seeking customer demand before committing to additional capacity.
But free cash flow remains under pressure while the company invests in capacity. Investors need to see actual customer commitments, manufacturing progress, and stronger financial results before treating the turnaround as complete.
AMD and the Semiconductor Supply Chain
Advanced Micro Devices $AMD ( ▼ 7.52% ) also declined following Intel's outlook, partly because industry-wide memory and supply constraints could affect the broader computing market.
However, AMD should not automatically be evaluated like Intel. Our research points to AMD's stronger free cash flow generation and faster-growing data center business. Its opportunity includes server CPUs and AI accelerators, both of which could benefit from expanding infrastructure demand.
Meanwhile, Nvidia $NVDA ( ▼ 1.26% ), Broadcom $AVGO ( ▼ 1.18% ), and Micron Technology $MU ( ▼ 5.78% ) remain important players in different parts of the AI supply chain. Nvidia supplies GPUs, Broadcom benefits from networking and custom silicon, and Micron provides memory products.
Their simultaneous declines do not mean their businesses face identical problems. Each company needs to be evaluated based on its own growth, competitive position, supply conditions, and valuation.

Cybersecurity Stocks: Strong Businesses Can Still Be Expensive
Cybersecurity stocks have also experienced selling pressure. Fortinet $FTNT ( ▼ 7.25% ), CrowdStrike $CRWD ( ▼ 3.44% ), and Palo Alto Networks $PANW ( ▼ 3.87% ) remained significantly higher year to date in the period we reviewed, despite recent declines.
Rubrik $RBRK ( ▼ 7.64% ) presents a different valuation concern. In our view, its share price may have become expensive compared with other available opportunities.
This highlights an important principle: liking a company's business does not mean its stock is attractive at every price. Strong growth must eventually support the valuation investors are paying.
What Should Investors Watch?
Market volatility may continue as investors assess inflation, interest rates, geopolitical tensions, US midterm elections, and year-end tax-loss selling. These factors can influence stock prices even when individual companies report strong results.
For long-term investors, the focus should remain on business performance rather than daily price movements:
Amazon: AWS growth, AI backlog, operating margins, and capital spending.
Reddit: User growth, referral traffic, advertising monetization, and AI licensing.
Intel: Foundry customers, manufacturing progress, and free cash flow.
AMD: Data center growth, CPU demand, and supply constraints.
Nvidia, Broadcom, and Micron: AI infrastructure demand and competitive positioning.
Fortinet, CrowdStrike, Palo Alto Networks, and Rubrik: Growth relative to valuation.
The AI Opportunity Is Not Over, but Valuation Matters
A correction does not automatically mean the AI investment cycle is finished. Demand for cloud computing, semiconductors, data centers, and cybersecurity remains significant. However, not every company will benefit equally, and not every falling stock is automatically a bargain.
Amazon continues expanding its cloud business, Reddit must address its traffic challenges, and Intel still needs to prove its manufacturing turnaround. Meanwhile, semiconductor and cybersecurity companies must demonstrate that their financial performance can justify their valuations.
MPC shows the same idea: second-quarter profit jumped to $17.73 a share, yet the stock closed at $444.73 on Oct 30, 2026, 8.3% below its Oct 14 high, a reminder that price and progress don't always move together. It reports again on Nov 3.
For busy investors, the better strategy is not to react to every market headline. Understand what each company owns, what drives its growth, and what could weaken its investment case.
The next opportunity may not come from buying every AI stock that falls. It may come from identifying the businesses whose long-term growth still supports their valuations.
